Washed Out (Day 9)

So by good sense we backed out of the first problem we came across today. After getting up to the top of the gorge after 100km of rough driving we had to turn around and go back. Rock falls had closed the trail just 5km from the road.

We went all of the way back as the rain fell and we took the diversion in the trail book but there were huge amounts of mud slides and water everywhere on the roads.

Section P our route for tomorrow is blocked at cathedral rock now but by a quirk of good luck we missed that closure by doing our short cut today.

So we diverted again and found a trail that brought us to the campsite. Pouring rain and average food.

Two Belgian guys arrived 3 hours later. We had advised them of the closure of the first trail and they followed us out. But they had tried to take the first part of route P and found river crossings too dangerous to attempt.

We are going to regroup tomorrow and find a route that’s open

Tonight the rain is falling in torrents. If I try and put up the swag in this I will be soaked before I get inside. It’s going to be a night sleeping in the car for me.
