Time to think

As we went to bed last night we were facing a port arrival in the early evening and allowing 2 hours to get off the ferry and probably another to get out of the port. The campsite looked out of reach and a few hours of sleep in the truck looked more likely.

As 8am. dawned this morning I could feel the ferry beating along and the GPS put us along the coast of Almeria.

We did some quick checking and we were making 40 km per hour. Double the night before. Our ferry captain had clearly been pedal to the metal all night.

We asked several of the crew about arrival time and got different answers each time but it was looking more like 1pm than 6pm.

We drank coffee and watched the blue dot move snail like across the map.

Another investigation told us 11am?

How? – Ship time is CET (Italy) but Morocco is 2 hours behind! So 11am is possible.

Just after 11 we docked and they opened the picnic table to get the passports stamped.

within an hour we were sweating below decks waiting to be unloaded.

Another hour passed and finally we could see daylight 1.5 hours after docking.

Customs wanted to go through the back of the truck looking for drones and CB radios. Both banned in Morocco but failed to spot the Starlink in the box marked kitchen and food.

First stop the fuel station. £1.50 a litre is not too bad. And the debit card worked in local currency. Another theoretical problem resolved.

1.5 hours later we rolled into our campsite. It’s on all the overland maps as the start of the TMT. Our host welcomed us, offered us chicken tagine for dinner and suddenly Morocco has become real.

30C, windy and dusty but by 5.30 the cool sea breeze and some ominous clouds are gathering. Could be a bit damp later.

We gathered inside the walls of the house, a wonderful chicken Tagine, bread and grapes to round out the day.
