Starlink Inflation

As usual with any project the concept of free Starlink or even discounted Starlink wandered off the trail and got lost.

Starlink although not strictly illegal in Morocco it does not have regulatory approval. Its not likely to get confiscated or taken away at the border crossing but its best not to advertise it. If I had a Sprinter van it would be on the roof and hidden away but mine has to go in the truck and set up with a tripod.

As with all the rest of the gear it has to go modular and so here is the new Starlink box with all the extra paraphernalia that goes with it. Battery, Chargers, Leads and small solar panel. Another hundred quid to add to the free Starlink connection.

A chilly weekend on Dartmoor was the perfect time to test the new set up and it was completely underwhelming – But in a good way. Plugged it in, turned it on, it worked – superfast internet for 4 hours without a problem. Total setup time was less than 10 minutes.

Testing the Starlink in the usual watery sunshine of a March day and it looks like I have plenty of power from the 30V converter and the solar panel. With 3 to 4 hours of Morocco sunshine in the evenings it should top the batteries up nicely and we can spend an hour on the social media annoying all of our friends with dusty photos from the trail.
