Go Big or Go Home

The problem with the TMT is that there is so much good information available. The route has been mapped into 26 stages A-B, B-C, C-D and there are plenty of motorcycle videos to get excited about. Sitting in the office with time on your hands makes the whole project very possible very quickly.

The 3000km (1875 Miles) distance is three times what we had planned for Zaragoza in 2025 and is a mixture of gravel, rocks and a some paved or graded roads. Its not the Khyber pass or the Kalahari desert and perfectly suited to our pick up trucks.

26 Sections in the route guide and although some will only be 150km we know from experience that the short ones are short for a reason and when you are travelling at 15km per hour average a ten hour day is not just possible but likely.

So 26 days for the rough bit in the middle and another 2 days just to get back to the ferry. Add in 5 days each side to get across Europe and its 33 days. Assume a minimum of 5 rest days during the 26 on the trail and its 40 days or 6 weeks. Add in the rally in the middle and its out to 7 weeks if we eat the TMT in one bite.

Without the pressure of jobs and family its very possible to disappear for 6 weeks and as the clock ticks away we are not getting any younger. The TMT is new, exciting but will become crowded, more regulated, less of an adventure in the coming years as Morocco develops its infrastructure.

The social and practical lines on the graph all intersect at October 2026 if we are going to do this.
Its time to go big – or go home
